Neopets Dailies: December 2014

Pirates have always been known for their notorious table manners and bottomless appetites. And if you didn't already know that, you probably will now as you engage in the Krawk Island game of shameless gluttony! The Food Club (not to be confused with the Gourmet Club) is where Neopians gather from all over to place their bets on which pirate's gonna eat the most. The neopets Food Club is an older game (as one may notice from the terrible art) and not too many people play it because of all the confusing numbers and such, but that's why you're here right? To learn how you can easily tap into this game and earn lots of Neopoints! Yay!

The Betting and How it Works

So here's how the Food Club basically works; each day there are five eating contests, one hosted at each of the five arenas: Shipwreck, Lagoon, Treasure Island, Hidden Cove and Harpoon Harry's. Each of the contests have five pirates participating and there are ten courses for the pirates to eat.

You get to place a bet on which pirate will eat the most in his arena, and if you pick the winning pirate you win some Neopoints! But if he loses, you lose any money you wagered on him. The amount you can win depends on the amount you bet and the odds you bet on. You multiply the number of Neopoints you bet by the odds to figure out how much you'll win. For example, if I had bet 1000 NP and the odds were 3:1, I would get 1000 x 3 = 3000 NP. Of course, this means that the higher the number, the more NP you'll get. But, as with real life odds, the higher the odds, the less likely that pirate is to win in his arena. The Food Club calculates your potential winnings for you, so you won't have to use a calculator!

You are allowed to bet on different pirates in different arenas, but if you do, you'll have to win all of your bets in order to collect any of your winnings. So if I bet on two pirates, one in the Shipwreck and the other at the Lagoon, and then Shipwreck wins and Lagoon loses, I get no money at all :(

You'll also lose your money if you don't pick up your winnings within 7 days, so make sure you'll have some time to check on your bets! (Don't make any bets before a vacation without internet!)

How to Win

Now if you actually do want to win (and who doesn't really?) you need to learn how to pick the winning pirate. But with all those numbers of weight and strength, not to mention allergies and success rates, choosing a winning pirate may be daunting. But not to worry! Because the Kacheek does your work for ya!

Remember when I mentioned how the lower the number, the higher the odds? Well, you can get the odds from the Kacheek, without looking at the courses, weight, strength, etc, so you don't have to do any of the figuring yourself. But it's more than choosing a pirate with good odds (low numbers), you should also make sure that the other pirates have really bad odds (high numbers), which will increase your chances even more. I always try to find a pirate who's 2:1 with a bunch of other pirates who are about 10:1 or higher. True, it isn't that risky a venture, but at least it'd practically guarantee you success. Or as guaranteed as you can be with gambling.

If you really want to make your entire fortune from the neopets Food Club, then you'd obviously have to be a bit more adventurous than me up there. Especially since the maximum you can bid on one pirate is 50 + 2x, x being the amount of days you've been playing Neopets. Once you get more advanced you can experiment with making multiple bets, up to the maximum of ten, to cover all possible outcomes in a specific arena. Doing so whilst still making a profit can be very tricky though, so that might be best reserved for the mathematicians.
